Nauticor bunkers ‘Iona’ – Cruise Ship Industry

Gasum’s Hamburg based LNG supplier, Nauticor has conducted the initial ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations for P&O’s newbuilding cruise ship ‘Iona’.

The bunkering was conducted by Gasum’s LNG BSV ‘Kairos’ in Bremerhaven. This operation also marked another milestone as it was the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation at the port.

‘Iona’ is in her final outfitting phase by builder Meyer Werft. She moved from Papenburg to Bremerhaven for final outfitting and also underwent a spell in drydock at Damen’s Botlek facility.

Gasum’s BSV ‘Kairos’ started operating in 2019 and is mainly used in the North Sea and the Baltic. The vessel became a part of Gasum’s fleet when the company took over Nauticor’s marine bunkering business in April, 2020.

“The bunkering operation was a great success because of a close co-operation between our teams onshore and at sea and the shipyard. ‘Kairos’ has proven again that the vessel is a valuable asset for us in our aim to develop the Northern European market for LNG as maritime fuel and we are looking forward to reaching more milestones on our way to make transport more sustainable,” said Jacob Granqvist, Sales Director, LNG Maritime, Gasum.
